Key Takeaways

  • The Synoptic Panel allows you connect areas in an image with attributes in your data model.
  • Using the Synoptic Designer you can convert an image that you have to one that is compatible with plotting out data points on it.
  • You can fill each area with a color or a saturation of a color.

This Synoptic Panel shows the usage of fuel pumps at a gas station.

  • Under the Format paintbrush there several options available for customizing the Synoptic Panel.
  • Under the Unmatched areas section you can define how you want regions on the image to appear when their are no data points in your dataset that match a region.

  • Next, you will find the Matched areas section which defines the color that should be displayed when your dataset does have data points matching regions on your image.

  • Changing the Saturation state section allows you to adjust color shading that may appear on a region’s color.

  • Using the State 1, State 2 and State 3 sections allow you to define ranges of a KPI on your image.

  • By turning on the Labels section you can display either the category value or the measure value on top of your image regions.

  • Finally, under the Legend section you can turn on the a legend to be your key to understanding each of the region locations. In the example shown in the video turning on the legend does not makes sense because we’ve already added labels on the image and our colors do not map up to either because we’ve made this more of a KPI.

In addition to these properties you have a set of settings that appears on every visual to adjust the background color, add a border around the visual and lock the aspect ratio.
