here is where i am so far.

if i try to connect to an instance that doesnt exist, then the SSMS hangs for a few seconds then returns a differet error...

the server is running windows server 2003.

i can log in as sa or another user on the server itself, however i cannot use either of these to log in to...

i have checked the logs and it is listening on 1433, although it does say something about admin support listening on 1434??

i will try the rest in the morning and...
