RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM backup_device WITH LOADHISTORY populates the columns of the backupmediaset table with the appropriate values from the media-set header.

check the backupset table in msdb on the source of the backup server, it would have the type of backup and the file name

you could try adding a step to you r backup job to compress it with winzip and protect it with password .... just a thought

the distribution agent runs as an OS process ... check the running processes in task manager ..... and I believe there is an upper limit to amount of such processes...

i think you could do an Active-Active cluster ... where both instances of SQL Server are Active and each runs on its different node of the the cluster. Shared Drive...

Yes, you can back up transaction log after your reindex operation. To keep log file size in check during the reindex process, i generally increase the frequency...
