Very Odd Backup Notification

  • I have alerts setup to email me whenever a successful backup (18246) occurs. I just got such an email. There are many things odd about this notification.

    1. I just received the email, yet the text indicates "creation date(time): 2008/11/05(14:25:10)" which is approximately two days ago.

    2. pages dumped: 1 ..... I guarantee this database contains much more the one data page.

    3. When i pull up the Backup and Restore Events report in SSMS for this database, it shows the backup having occurred just moments ago (not when the alert text says) and shows a duration of 0:00 and a backup size of 6KB. None of this is accurate.

I cannot find any evidence of an actual full backup having taken place.

Thoughts? What could have triggered this!? I am very confused.

  • Now, after trolling through some system tables, I come to find out that this was a snapshot backup. We do not do snapshots. How could this have just happenned?

Now in case it is relevant, this DB was just placed on this server and is running in a 80 compatability mode.

  • Very strange. Copy only backup? Was this model by any chance?

Any other data in the logs?
