Upgraded SQL 2000 To 2008 ... What Replaces Query Analyzer & Enterprise Mgr?

  • We just had our ERP app vendor remotely move our SQL 2000 database to SQL 2008.

I had Query Analyzer (QA) and Enterprise Manager (EM) on my laptop and used them frequently.

QA - SQL statements, every day. 99.9% to review data, not updates or other changes.

EM - Check activity when performance slows, check who is active in the database.

Can the newer tools be downloaded from somewhere, and if so where?

I've been googling and also searching msdn.

  • Management Studio

It's on the SQL dvd, you can install it from there onto your workstation. When you run through the installer, deselect the database engine and make sure that workstation tools is checked.

  • Do you think you could suggest an easier solution?

    Just kidding. Thanks so much.

P.S. The person who moved the databases over and set up the maintenance said I needed to download Query Analyzer and it was a freebie - you already know what I encountered when I searched the internet.

  • Installed SQL Server Management Studio.

Have performed some tasks - Checking user logins and running some SQL commands.

    I'm a happy camper.

    Thanks again for the help.

  • Glad to hear it.
