Replication Problems

  • Whilst I was away the following happened

    1) The C: drive on the SQL server ran out of Disk SPace

    2) The Transaction log became corrupted (at some point in time)

    3) No one was checking the emails and alerts

4)The replicated database for our internet planning search became marked as suspect

Upon return I found that the database was unrecoverable and had to be recreated.  The only way I could do this was to stop SQL Server , replace the Database files with another copy (without the replication).  I was then able to recover the data and recreate the replication.  I trawled through many forums & posts looking for answers before resorting to this solution.

The main cause of this problem was due to our strategy (not accepted by me) of doing full backups & not SQL Backups .... this case proved my point

Anyway  The  problem is as follows

Since recovering the databases & data I have some left over Replication information somewhere...

  • With the information you have provided, do you expect anyone to assist you?

Just what exactly is the problem? Put some thought into your question!

Where do you see the left over replication information?

    Kindest Regards,

  • OOPS

I missed off a bit of the message ...

The errors are showing in the replication monitor as publishers and agents with a red cross against them

The Publisher and agents no longer exist ....

Hope this is a bit clearer and that it did not post twice!

  • you did not provide the information about the replication type you are using.

also what configuration you use for replication.

  • The replication for R_IPS:IPS was merge replication.

The items that I want to remove are the entries in the replication monitor tree for the R_IPS:IPS replication.

as the original databases no longer exist.

Are these stored in the 'Distribution' Database ?? and is it possible to delete the entries without any adverse effects??

  • for removing replication

    just excute sp_removedbreplication

in replication monitor there are publications

    and agents.

now what you try to remove.
