I have searched the forum and not found further options, maybe they don't exist so i thought i would ask.
The problem i have at hand is this:
I need to migrate 3TB (largest 800GB) of databases between two providers.
Seperate domains networks etc
The database needs as small amount of downtime as possible at transfer.
My thoughts:
- Manual full backup sent 5 days prior, differential on the day , then logs sent at time of transfer. (hoping this would limit the data sent)
- Log Shipping (The change rate on bigger databases could cause significant costs and a need to invest in upgraded network links)
- Backup to disk and jump in car (the copy time to disk in slow on the bigger databases and there is the backup / restore jobs either side too)
- Third party software. redgate backup tool to get better compression
Anybody come across any other solutions i am missing?
Thanks

FULL/DIFF/LOG is a good strategy, but you might want to overnight the FULL. Also, if you can, avoid anything that's going to cause a lot of changes, like index maintenance or data manipulation processes.

thanks for the response, good idea disabling maintenance tasks for the database. Thanks.
