I got forwarded a vague email that was generated by SQL Agent monitoring event. It was emailed to one user. My environment contains more than 100 SQL Server instances that I'm getting myself familiar with having started a week ago.
Is there a faster way to track the source? Currently going to each instance looking for the operators tied to the user. Below is all the email contains(no other clues in the email):
'Maintenance Plan Failure - User DBs - Back DB Trans Log'

Is the FROM address not related to a server? Is it a shared address? This is one reason I don't want any shared accounts between servers.

The FROM was a generic email account. BUT I figured out why it was so hard to track down. When 'Notifications' SQL Agent properties is not used to send email alerts, it is a pain in the neck to track such errors. In this case, the user had set up a 'Notify Operator' task in the maintenance plan and didn't include enough identifying details.
