  • The biggest challenge I have with tools is licensing. The tools themselves are usually pretty cool. Figure out if I can use them... not so much.

  • I agree with Steve ... try new tools .. learn what they can and can not do for you.

    But I bump into the old adage.

    "So little time, so much to do"

    If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • Make sure whatever third-party tools (free or otherwise) you decide to use they are blessed first by the auditors. Otherwise, you are likely to get dinged on it pretty good.

  • I am currently doing a 14 Day eval of Redgate's SQL Monitor 2.3 now and I must say I am impressed with the ease of setup and config for this SQL Server monitoring tool versus say Idera DM, and the cost is much more in line as well.:-D
