I have a SQL 2008 R2 server that I would like to add a named instance to. The new instance will also be SQL Server 2008 R2.
My question is, does installing a new named instance to a SQL Server 2008 R2 server require a reboot?
Also since I have never had the need to install a named instance on any of my SQL Servers, are there any tips, concerns or gotchas that I should be aware of prior to installing the named instance.
Thank you,
Pat

Thanks, I actually found a test machine to try it out on. I just completed the named instance installation and it did not require a reboot.
