URgent- Help needed on installing hot fix

  • Currently my system is running sql 2000 sp4 with build 2195 and I need to install the hotfix (SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.2223) to fix some timeout issues. Should I install all the other sequential hot fixes from 2196 through 2222 or 2223 will cover all the other fixes? Can you also please send me the steps to install the hotfix? Do I have to start the sql services after the install?

  • This is not a CU, just a hotfix.

    From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925419/:

    Hotfix file information

This hotfix contains only those files that are required to correct the issues that this article lists. This hotfix may not contain all the files that you must have to fully update a product to the latest build.

As far as how to install, and whether services have to be restarted, I would read any README files that come from downloading the hotfix:

    http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=925419&kbln=en-us

Followed by first testing on a dev or test environment built to the same level. I would ALWAYS bet on restarting the services, just in case. Expectation Management 😉
