Yes, was just telling my 18 year old son what Star Wars was like when I first watched it. Me and my buddy will pop into the local cinema to watch ANY show just to catch the trailer then. And it took almost a year for it to be screen in this part of the world then. The wait was worth it. May the 4th be with you Steve.

I watched the first or second Star Wars Movie partially as a kid but somehow decided "nah, not my type of thing" (I have more reasons but they would make true fans sad).
Generally speaking I'm a huge Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren fan. One of the most anticipated movies for me was "The Expendables" because finally all the big action heroes are in one movie.
All of this means I'll most likely have to revisit "The Transporter", "The Expendables" and "The Fast & Furious" Series of movies, quite a bit of work ahead of me I guess.

Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope was our first date. My wife and I enjoyed the first Star Wars trilogy and saw the fourth movie, but we haven't kept up with it. Last year, my nephew hosted Thanksgiving dinner. Prior to the meal, he put on Disney's The Mandalorian. I just could not get into the series; it was slow.

I remember (dimly) standing in line for around an hour outside a little 2-screen theater with my Mom and brother to go see either Star Wars: A New Hope or it might've been Empire Strikes Back. Since then, I've caught all the movies in the theater on opening weekend, including the re-vamped original three (and weren't some of THOSE changes disappointments)
I haven't been disappointed in the new trilogy, although maybe not as happy with them as the originals. They drag in some spots, but in others they've got GREAT set pieces (frankly, I think the battle at Mazs bar (with the X-Wings coming in low over the water,) was a better scene than the final battle over Star Killer Base.
So, with all that said, I'll probably get the wife to toss in one of the movies after I'm done with work today, might be original trilogy, could be Last Skywalker, won't be any of the prequels, and enjoy myself (pretty sure we've got the original versions of the original trilogy, and not the remaster. After all, HAN SHOT FIRST DANG IT!)

I have to admit, I'm a bit lukewarm when it comes to Star Wars. I enjoyed the first three (middle part) that came out, but no so much the others since. From a film and technology aspect, 4 films come to mind that I have no problem watching over and over. The first is a little obscure one called Electric Dreams, based on a short story by, I think, Isaac Asimov (feel free to correct me) about a computer falling in love with a human, the second, believe it or not, is Johnny Pneumonic, which I first saw After I read Neuromancer by William Gibson and felt that film came closest to capturing the image of diving into the net in the book, and finally, Blade Runner and the 5th Element. Both portrayed the vision of the distant future, full of garbage and abandoned structures, but the 5th Element was just a fun romp over a lot of Sci-Fi memes.

Watching Star Wars IV: A New Hope in theater has been the best movie experience I've ever had. Some movies come somewhat close, but nothing compares to that experience.
Today, I'm not as big a fan of Star Wars as I used to be. I still enjoy it, but felt that the 3 prequels did the franchise serious damage. When they came out I lost a lot of interest. The last 3 helped to bring me back, but never completely recovered my interest as before.

Enjoyed the last trilogy (episodes 7-9), but they weren't ground-breaking, just kinda fun and nostalgic. The way they are constantly trying to "rescue the damsel" and she's always three steps ahead is amusing, for example. "why are you holding my hand? I know how to run without you holding my hand!"
My son is embedded into Star Wars completely at this point, so if anything is even slightly related to Star Wars, it is inherently awesome. That definitely helps to make things more enjoyable, although it hasn't won me over to Jar Jar Binks yet.
Personally, I loved the theory that he was really a Sith, but that didn't go anywhere.

Indeed, I feel about the Expendables the same way as with Duke Nukem Forever - you didn't expect this to happen anymore!

Steve, if you get the chance watch Star Wars Rogue One. It connects the best with the Original moves (it's the prequel we really wanted!). There's gobs and gobs of easter eggs for fans of the extended universe, but not knowing them doesn't detract in the slightest.
Likewise, The Mandarolian on Disney+ is absolute gold, especially if you like Spaghetti Westerns.

Yeah, I need to watch that one. I'm behind, mostly because life gets in the way, and I've been wanting to get my kid to watch a couple with me in a day. I need to get them all in order and then catch up. I'd like to re-watch Solo and the Last Jedi as I saw them on planes, and the view wasn't great.

It's impossible to be "caught up", because that means you'd have to have watched all the animated series' too, cared enough to follow that but still keep track of what got thrown out of the expanded universe when Disney took over, etc. And then you have to care deeply about this massive galaxy and their conflicts....as they relate to one family....on four planets(ish)….
Even the Mandalorian....season 2 whenever it comes better expand more on "the kid" and his(?) significance (without being significant in the last three movies, somehow), otherwise that's just really lazy to not come up with a new trick after all this time.

The first Star Wars movie I have seen was Return of the Jedi, somewhere in the late 80's.
To this day, I am still awed by that Endor speeder bike chase.
I have been a huge fan all my life, although the first Disney effort was a bit disappointing.
I must agree with mwyss that Rogue One is a much better prequel.
Only a true fan an geek would make sense of the following: do || !do; try = undefined
Or maybe a more SQL-related version would be: SET @try = NULL

I still remember being taken to see my first star wars film in the UK, Return of the Jedi, that one screen cinema in Solihull has been closed for years and I have moved half way around the world but those films have the ability to make me feel like a kid again.
Like a lot of people I have been pretty disappointed with the later releases but they do have some exciting scenes and I try to think of them as stand alone movies.
I find they are great for escapism which I think we need at the moment.
