IS SQL Configuration Manager available without SSMS?

  • I want to install the instance and use Configuration Manager without installing SSMS. Is it possible?

I've read this on official MS SQL Server docs
Note: Because SQL Server Configuration Manager is a snap-in for the Microsoft Management Console program and not a stand-alone program, SQL Server Configuration Manager does not appear as an application in newer versions of Windows.

What does it mean that SQL Server Configuration Manager is not a stand-alone program?

  • Microsoft management console (MMC) isn't SSMS. SSMS stands for SQL Server Management Studio, which is an application you install, MMC is part of Windows.
