Unable to telnet to port TCP 443

  • Our team is currently setting up the Symantec Altiris Application. This application will connect to SQL Server.  Our database is 2 node cluster setup.

Now, our application team wants to test the ports. The problem is that they are unable to telnet to TCP 443 (telnet <SQLVirtualInstance IP> 445   e.g. telnet 10.26.xx.xx 443). Our Network team has opened this port in the firewall. Our Server Team also has opened this firewall port on Windows Server 2008. But they are still not able to telnet. IIS is also enabled (They is an existing SSRS running on this DB server)

TCP port 443 - Used for an HTTPS connection through a URL. HTTPS is an HTTP connection that uses secure sockets layer (SSL).

How to make this work? Or is this even possible?

    Thank you very much.

  • silly question but have you actually configured the SSRS instance for HTTPS, the default is HTTP on port 80
