It’s the first Monday of 2014. Time for a new year and some resolutions to be a better DBA. Unlike a gym resolution, though, it’s time to make sure that you this resolution doesn’t fall by the wayside. While SQL Server environments can run fine for days, weeks, and months without issues, that doesn’t mean that you don’t need to take care of them. Every month you need to look to make sure things like backups and patches are being completed. To make sure nothing gets missed, you will need a checklist.
For the checklist, make a list of the things that are going on in your environment that are worth tracking from month to month. If you don’t already have your own checklist, check out the SQL Server Monthly Checklist that I provide on this blog. It covers most everything that should be checked. If you see anything missing from that list, please leave a comment on this post. And if there are good resources out there that should be included on the list – share those as well.
Checklist Updates
There are just a couple changes to the checklist since last month, these updates include:
- Added cumulative update for SQL Server 2012 RTM
- Added cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
- Added cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 SP3
- Updated the list of other SQL Server updates to pay attention to.
