Can someone guide me how DEVOPS is useful for DBA

A broad topic with many possible answers. What's the context? Was this an interview question?

If you haven't even tried to resolve your issue, please don't expect the hard-working volunteers here to waste their time providing links to answers which you could easily have found yourself.

  • This is not a interview Q.
I just wanted to know is Devops really needed for a DBA

Devops might not be needed for a DBA, but a DBA might be needed for Devops. It depends on what your company calls Devops, as most of them have a different idea of Devops.

  • Absolutely.

DevOps is a set of mechanisms that enable better communication between all the various roles involved in IT. Starting in Development and moving through to your Production systems, DevOps offers an infrastructure within which everyone works on a common goal, helping the business, rather than individual goals, write code, deploy changes, protect production, etc.

Go over to my blog. I've got tons of posts all about DevOps.

Today at Noon EST, I'll be presenting a session on DevOps for the DBA called "Extending DevOps to SQL Server". It'll answer all your questions. Check out the DBA Fundamentals Virtual Group with PASS for more information. They'll be recording the session as well.

DevOps should be the foundation for how most of us get our jobs done. Yes, it's applicable to the DBA.
