Shared Files in a cluster

  • Hi,

I'm currently facing an issues with some shares on my SQL cluster. This seems to be node specific and I'm wondering which is the correct one. I've been seeing an issue when moving one Instance (INST1) from NodeA to NodeB. The instance is fine on NodeA and within the "Shares and Storage Management" in Server Manager I can see 2 shares for the Drive Letter (G:\) assigned to this instance. When I view the sharepaths I can see the following \\NodeA\G$ and I can also see \\INST1\G$.

When I move INST1 to NodeB the instance fails to come online with the following error:

Could not register Service Control Handler. Operating system error = 2310(This shared resource does not exist.).

When I look in the "Shares and Storage Management" I can see both my shares still. Where it gets interesting is I have INST2 which happily lives on NodeB and only shows 1 file share \\NodeB\J$, but nothing for the Instance vServerName.

So my question is: Which is correct? Should I see 2 shares per Instance or just one.

I hope the above makes some sense as I'm trying to work through the bigger problem of the Instance not coming online on both nodes.

Any information or queries are appreciated.

  • Also I've seen suggestions to restart the server service. Will this take down my SQL instances?

    Thanks
