SSMS 2014 running slow

  • Hi

I recently uninstalled SSMS 2008R2 and installed 2014

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio - 12.0.4100.1
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools -  12.0.4100.1
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) -  10.0.14393.0
    Microsoft MSXML - 3.0 6.0
    Microsoft Internet Explorer  - 9.11.14393.0
    Microsoft .NET Framework  - 4.0.30319.42000

    Operating System - 6.3.14393

Now whenever I open SSMS on browse the databases with Object explorer details pane open SSMS starts using 30-40% of the cpu.

A ProcMon trace show SSMS continuously going through this loop

It appears to be looking for this path
    C:\Windows\assembly\NativeImages_v4.0.30319_32\Microsoft.Sd86e9aab#\f8113689b1aac7b81a8e1c3345fef494\Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.ni.dll

    Any Ideas?

    Alex

  • Have you tried applying SP2?  Better still, why not go straight to SSMS 2016?

+1, unless the OP needs to connect to a SQL Server version that doesn't support.
