Step by step to install Cumulative update in sql 2008 r2

  • Hi all ,

Anyone here know the step by step to install Cumulative update in sql 2008 r2?

    Pls advise !!

    Thank you

    Cheers

  • The installation of a CU is basically the same as the installation of a SP. Of course: to be sure and on the safe side you should first execute a CU upgrade on a non-production server!!

Thank you for the response and sorry for the double post .

Hmm should I stop all sql services before I install CU ?

    Pls advice

  • I haven't installed a CU recently, but if I recall correctly all SQL services need to be stopped. During the initial configuration steps a check on locked files is performed, before the actual install is started.

    OK . Thank you !

Then finally , Should we restart the computer or the Restart the SQL Server ?

  • If you have stopped the SQL Server services during install and no locked files were found, you only have to start the SQL service again. If you were not able to stop all services/processes that were locking files (and thus you kept seeing locked files in the list) a reboot of the server may be required.
