  Depending on what you are trying to do, you can make use of SHIFT I think.

  Something like

  SET filename=$1

  SHIFT

  SET something=$1

  SHIFT

  SET somethingelse=$1

  Each time you use SHIFT it drops $1 and shifts all other parameters down so $2 becomes $1, $3 becomes $2 etc....

  I think this way you can access more than 9.
