Which Version of 2008 to use

  • Hi Guys,

Now that I Have my connections string working i am well on my way to developing my first true Client Server appl.

I need to know what version of SQL Server 200 to purchase !

I need to allow about 15 users at one time, database shoud be no bigger that 100,000 records and I can easily archive them over time.

The Developer of SQL Server 2008 version that I am currently using has 1 user license and is the same as the standrad version foo which you can buy many user licenses, is thix correct?

Does anyone know if the Express (Free) version come with SSMS and how many users can connect with it?

    regards

    to all

  • express 2k8 R2 has a 1 cpu, 1 gb ram & 10 GB per db limit (no user limit)

Free and should be enough to get off the ground.

  • There are some trade-offs to express, it doesn't come with SSMS or SQL Agent. But if you can live with the limitations, it is free. Technically you can only license SQL 2008R2 now, you can't buy SQL 2008, I wan't 100% sure if you were asking version or edition?

And you can schedule stuff if you want - you just have to use windows scheduler to run scripts. Ola Hallengren`s solution for backups can be quite useful.
