SQL Server 2008 Subscriber to SQL Server 2000 Publication

  • I'm trying to setup SQL Server 2008 as a subscriber to a SQL Server 2000 snapshot publication. When I look for publications, it won't see the SQL Server 2000 server.

Both servers listen on the same non-standard port (not 1433).

On a hunch, I reconfigured the SQL Server 2000 and added port 1433 to listen on. Now I can see the server and set up replication. HOWEVER, my security department will cut off my (fill in your favorite body part) if they see 1433.

When I attempt to connect to other SQL Servers from the SSMS, it requires me to add the port designator to the server name.

    Any thoughts?

  • Out of interest, what service pack are you running on your SQL 2000 server ?

  • SP3

  • Ok..

I recall an article by Microsoft that might help..it discusses using Alias' with the Client Network Utility

    Hope this helps !!
