SQL server 2008 : database installation

  • All,

i am a bit new to the concept of SSIS packages and was earlier using DTS packages in the 2000 version.

There is a requirement to accomplish certain ETL activities between DB2 databases and at times between DB2 and SQL server database.

for this same purpose we have a SQL server 2008 installed along with BIDS. Is a database installation also required along with it? we dont intend to store anything related to the application.

  • Hi,

You need to install only Integration Services to be able to run the packs from command line or .NET code. Obviously, if you want to deploy the packs to the database, you have to have one. But we found out that deploying packs to file system is much easier and less problematic maintenance wise.

    Regards
