error upgrading SQL 2005 developer ed to standard ed

    I'm trying to upgrade SQL Server 2005 from developer ed to standard ed. Am using command:

    c:\sql2005\Servers\setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1

    I get up to the Upgrade logon information screen and then run into an error:

    UpgradeAdvisor returned -1

    Error message:

    I'm using Windows authentication, same account I used to install SQL 2005 initially.

    I also tried using mixed mode with sa account and got the same error.

    Any ideas what I should look for here? I'm ready to uninstall/reinstall.

    I am not aware of upgrade from developer to standard because developer is enterprise with no deployment license. So you need to talk to Microsoft about converting to a standard license which means downgrade to standard which comes with less features.

    Thanks very much for the quick response. The version and edition upgrade document on Microsoft site said it is possible, so I thought I would try. I'll probably have to uninstall the dev ed and then install standard then. We do have the license for it.

    You could keep most development in the relational engine but SSIS, SSRS and SSAS comes with many differences. Check below for details.
