Hi all
I am looking to create a form which will allow me to update/search a SQL database. Doesn't need to be anything fancy at all but I'm not sure which method I should spend my time on learning?

Your question is quite broad which is probably why you are not getting a lot of answers. Generally in an professional environment you don't have a lot of choice, meaning most organizations have a preferred environment so thats what you will need to use.
If you truly are able to choose any enevironment then consider:
-your budget-can you afford to buy a development tool or will you use open source tools
-your audience-for a captive audience you may be able to use an application that needs to be installed or you can build something web-enabled, everyone's got a web browser
marketability-are you trying to break into software development? Then start examining the market and see what skills are desirable
