trying to connect VB Pro 2008 on SQL server 2008

  • I've developped a few years ago an VB 2003/SQL 2000 apps and i'm trying to convert it to VB 2008/SQL 2008 on WinServer 2008.

My major problem is that i can't see the database from my development PC. I've install the Sql server client tools on the PC and i still can't see the database on the server.

I really don't know what i'm doing wrong. The server and the pc are connected via a simple router but the only thing that i'm finding is the SQL 2005 express on the development pc.

    Any idea ?

  • What do you mean by "See it"?

If you mean that you cannot see it on the browse list, don't worry about that: it's terribly inconsistent. Just type the ServerName/Instance in anyway and try to connect.

If that doesn't work, then logon the server console and try it from there. Let us know the results and any error messages that you may get.
