SQLSaturday #6 - Canceled

,

Just heard back from Allen White, due to his schedule and minimal success creating a true team effort plans for SQLSaturday #6 in Cleveland are being canceled. Not fair to fault Allen for this, I think there were several contributing factors:

  • He changed jobs right about the time initial planning started
  • We didn't do a good enough job setting expectations on building the event
  • Not enough community buy-in

We're both going to be at the PASS Summit, so we're hoping to find time while we're there to talk it over in greater detail and see if there is a way to try again, mid next year.

We knew at the start that some events would fail early (not great, but ok), and sooner or later some events will fail during execution (bad, not ok). We've learned a little bit about the things that increase the odds of success and we'll try to apply that, but there is still the chance something will go wrong. So far we've scheduled 11 events, of those three are still in the open column (Tampa in January, Birmingham and Tacoma in early spring), one failed (this one), and the rest went went well (six for seven?).
