MSDN Tutorial vid for Reporting Services

    Pretty much a newbie here. Followed the video instructions to the letter, but cannot complete the "simple" task of the Reports Home Page being displayed when I enter http://localhost/Reports

    All looks good in IIS but I think something just needs a tweak.

    Any suggestions please?

    I just had a chance to look into SQL Server Reporting Services. We had a debate on what to pick, Crystal Reports or SQL Server Reporting Services. With a staggering price for Crystal Reports and the licensing overheads we thought we’d give a try with SQL Reporting Services first.

    Look at rsreportserver.config file for "SecureConnectionLevel" setting. You may try to set it 0. For more info see section "SSL Configuration After Install" at http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=357694&seqNum=4

    Or does it work if you access it via https:// rather than http://?

    My experience of dealing with BusinessObjects/SAP.

    1. Deal direct as opposed to through a reseller

    2. Be prepared to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate

    3. Never ever be prepared to pay face value (list price)

    As with everything, it's horses for courses... there are many reasons that an organisation may choose a specific reporting tool, and price should not necessarily be the most important factor. Having deployed both BO/Crystal and SSRS/Proclarity with success, both have their place, and the price differential is not always as great as it initially might look, depending on the type of deployment/implementation you are required to make. 🙂
