Log file

  • Day by day my log file size got increasing.is it any way to clean up the log file?

  • Are you using FULL RECOVERY and back-up the log frequently?

  • No.i am not doing it.

  • you have 2 choices:

    1) either change the recovery model to simple and do a shrink on the logfile (if it's very big). drawback: you can't do a PIT recovery, so this is not advisable on critical databases.

    2) leave the database in full recovery, but do several transaction logdumps per day (depending on the workload). Also make sure you have scheduled a full backup on a regularly base.

  • More information is necessary to understand what's going on here:

    - What's the recovery model of the database?

    - What kind of backups are you doing and how often are you doing them?

    - Is the database publishing any replicated objects?
