Log Shipping .trn file location

  • Just a quick question re transaction log backup file locations:

If I backup directly to a share on the secondary server, do I still need to enable the COPY job? I am trying to keep my log shipping config as tight as possible and I think I can remove the need for the copy job.

At present in my config the destination folder for my copy is the same as the location where I backup to and all seems fine, but I am concerned that this may cause me issues later?

Also, if I do disable the copy job, I am concerned that the restore job will not know where to pick up the tran log file back ups from as it seems to me that the destination folder in the copy job is where it looks for them?

Would appreciate any feedback/suggestions anybody can provide

    Many Thanks.

  • Don't do this, you aren't going to gain much and I have never come across anyone wanting to do this or who have actually done it. You could test this to see.

I would put your logs in a separate folder just to keep it tidy.
