SQL Server 7.0 does not start

  • I have a P-III , 256 MB RAM running Win 2K Professional and SQL SERVER 7.0. I use SQL Server authentication method to connect to the server. Earlier the computer name of my PC was INDICA36. Due to some reasons I had to change it to INDICA3. Now, whenever I try to start my SQL SERVER (installed locally) I get the following error : Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unknown package id). Please rerun setup.

I went to the Enterprise Manager and deleted the previous SQL Server registration. I then again tried to register the server as INDICA3. But I got the same error. Eagerly waiting for your help. Since I am a novice please give detailed instructions.

  • You will need to re-run the SQL Server setup program again.

Setup knows that the server software is already installed, so won't actually do a re-install (so you won't lose databases etc), but it will correct all the registry entries that will have the old server name.
