I have been effortlessly developing Reporting Services reports for my Reporting Intranet for some time now and feel pretty happy with it. Yesterday I thought I would take a look at report builder and before too long had a report model and sample report up and running using terminal services to connect to the server. Trying to access report Builder from my local PC however I get the error that the report Builder application cannot be downloaded (full error message at the end of this). Checking what there is on the web about this I checked all the obvious .NET 2.0 installed - yes; eliminate proxy settings; etc. Still no workee! I have a development box alongside my PC that is also connected to the LAN but NOT on the domain (my local pc IS on the domain). I tried to connect using that. Works a treat. Downloads the app no problem and allows me to use report builder to view and manipulate reports.
This is obviously something to do with the domain but I'm not a network guy and find myself somewhat stumped. Any ideas out there? Much appreciated if there are.

We have exactly the same problem and can't find any resolution anywhere. Have you happened to have fixed this since your last post?

No, but I believe it is something to do with our user desktop lockdowns by our outsourcing outfit. Unfortunately we are outsourced to a computer company who are a devil to work with. I have not jumped up and down sceaming yet because it is low priority for me and the users at the moment.

FYI... I was having the same problem and it was dns related. I can access it via the IP Address fine but through the domain name i get the 503 error.

I've tired it via IP address and it's DNS name and I get this issue. This was not a problem until I installed SP1 for SQL Server 2008 last week.

From the error message I get a feeling that you are not specifying the Report Server / Report Manager ports correctly.
The other reason for this not working for you is authentication/permissions. You should be a window user with correct permission to touch report related objects on the box that is hosting the Reporting Services.

I ended up calling Microsoft Support to resolve this issue. For about 3 days of working on this we found out that for some reason 3 of the files that are part of Report Builder were not getting updated with SP1. So they sent me CU4 which came out after SP1 and that did not solve the issue either. We ended up looking at the files and noticing differences in file sizes. The Microsoft Support Rep sent me those files individually and once I replaced the ones on my server Report Builder started working again. The three files replaces were:
Microsoft.Data.ConnectionUI.Dialog.dll.deploy
Microsoft.Data.ConnectionUI.dll.deploy
ReportBuilder.exe.manifest
The strange part was that the Microsoft rep did not have this issue with there server after upgrading to SP1 so he speculated that perhaps somehow our files became corrupt and could not be updated when we ran SP1.
Seems like a weird solution but it did resolve our issue.

Hi there,
I have been having the same issue with SSRS on Report Builder where my Microsoft .NET 2.0 SP1 seems to be missing those three files. Is there a way that you could send me these files?
