How to restore a filegroup only on sql 2000

  • HI

I have a database Test with a primary filegroup of aroung 30 GB.I also have a second filegroup of the same database.I have created a table called TestTable on the second filegroup.I have taken a full back up of the database. After taking a full backup of the database i inserted some data in the TestTable, took a backup of the filegroup only and dropped the table TestTable.I now want to restore only the second filegroup without restoring the entire database so that i do not have to restore the larger full backup. How can i go about this.

    thanks

  • Hi,

You can perform a Filegroup restore from enterprose manager to restore a DB Filegroup.

Follow the following steps to retore a filegroup:

    1. Expand a server group, and then expand a server.
    2. Expand Databases, right-click the database, point to All Tasks, and then click Restore Database.
    3. In the Restore as database box, type or select the name of the database to restore, if different from the default.
    4. Click Filegroups or files.
    5. In the Restore list, select each file and filegroup to restore.
    6. Click the Options tab, and then do one of the following:

      • Click Leave database operational. No additional transaction logs can be restored if no further transaction log backups are to be applied.
      • Click Leave database nonoperational, but able to restore additional transaction logs if another transaction log backup is to be applied.
