  • I don't know of any stored procedure, but the error logs are clear text.  First, you can view them from within Enterprise Manager by expanding the server, then expand management, then SQL Server Logs, then select the error log you wish to view.  Alternately, since the logs are clear text, you can view them directly with any text editor.

Just be sure that you are not confusing error logs with transaction logs.  Transaction logs cannot be viewed (unless you purchase a special 3rd party tool which allows this).

  • The clear text logs spoken about earlier can be found in the LOG directory under the MSSQL directory in your installation path.

Always remember to check the event logs as well.  Usually you'll find the same or similiar information there for error situations.
