I am trying to add a Ctree database to SQL 2005. I have the odbc dsn set up and it works with Access.
SQL Server allows me to set up the link, but when I try to open it, I get "Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_CATALOGS" for OLE DB provider "SQL Server" for linked server "(null)". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used. Error: 7311"
When I test the connection, it returns successfully. I belive the problem is with the Catalog parameter, but I don't know what that would be for a Ctree database.
Has anyone successfully linked a Ctree database? and if so, how?

I'm sorry but I'm having difficulty understanding you problem.
Are you simply trying to link a SQL Server Tabler using a DSN?
If that is the case then how does the Linked Server issue necessary.
Please be more specific for I can't decipher what you are asking...

I am trying to link a Ctree database as a linked server. I have an ODBC DSN set up for the Ctree database. The DSN uses a driver from FairCom Corporation, the company that produces Ctree.
I know the DSN is set up correctly, since I can link the Ctree database to Access.
But when I try to add the Ctree database to SQL as a linked server, I get the error I mentioned.
I'm really looking for the parameters I need to link a Ctree database to SQL 2005.
Hopefully this is a little more clear.
Thanks for looking.

I had some better links but I lost them (see below)...
If you have any of the Microsoft Admin Books, they describe the process.
You can also Goggle and get plenty of hits provided you use the right keywords.

I hope this helps, if not let me know.

What documentation are you using to configure your Linked Server?
This is a relatively straight forward process.
Please let me know what, if any documentation that you have and if you can't find the solution ;et me know.
You can perform this via the GUI or System Stored Procedures...

Thanks for the info. I am pretty well set up for linking to Access databases and another SQL Server db. The problem seems to be specific to the ctree database. This a new database that I am working with and I am not real familiar with it.
After I link the ctree database, it show in the list of linked servers with the 'Catalog' and 'System Catalogs' listed below it, but no 'Default' node that would have the ctree tables listed. Selecting the 'System Catalogs' produces the error above.
I think I need to provide a specific value for the catalog, but I don't know what that is for ctree.
The web search results I've found talk about linking ctree to SQL Server, but I haven't found an example of actually doing it.
Thanks for the help.

Do you have any manuals?
It is really basic.
If you do not have a manual could you please Goggle defining an Access Linked Server?
It is only a few commands....

BTW, I suspect that you are confusing the concept of Linked Servers and Linked Tables via DSN's.
