Cannot Access Database through Enterprise Manager

  • We have recently started experiencing problems accessing databases on different domains through enterprise manager. The firewall settings have not changed and we can access the SQL server through a middle ware client we use. however, in enterprise manager and other applications we have built, the remote box acts as if it cannot see the instance of MSSQL. Has anyone run into issues with recent windows updates around this.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Are you able to access the remote box and not see the SQL instances or not access the remote box at all?  Just want to make sure I'm clear on your post.

  • I do suppose that you have the domain accounts set up? What about the security settings for the SQL Service and Agent service (here i dont think the agent would matter much)...Should be something with your security context.

  • We can see the SQL instances and can register the SQL server in Enterprise manager. But once I actually explore, I get the timeout error and cannot browse enterprise manager on that server.

I know it is something with security, unfortunately we are not responsible for the security on either box. Just getting stuck in the middle as the application vendor. I was looking to see if anyone had any recent similar experiences. Our applications are coded in Delphi but that does not seem to be the issue since even Enterprise Manager is acting up.

Everything was working fine for the connection on these servers until last week so it seems like it could be microsoft update related.

Any insight would be much appreciated.
