friends i need to install hotfix "hotfix 41609 for sql server". so how do i install. never every installed before.
I have sql 2005 with SP2. please guide.

download the patch from MS site and then run the executable.

For safety, take backup of your system and user databases before applying the patch.

Also resource database, just in case if you need to revert back.

But pradeep i do not find the particular hotfix. or can you please send me the link where i will find this HotFix.

The hot fix is 41609.

Friend, why dont you Just upgrade to SP3 insted of Individual HotFixes... (I am not sure what that hotfix does/corrects). but SP3 will have everything...

Well i too didnt find that hotfix,.

but i was told to install that particular only to the prod database. please if you help me in this. and do after installing Hotfixes do we need to restart the server or just restart the sql server services and agent services?

Can you recheck with the ppl who told you to install that patch?

gives all patches/hotfixes for 2005 including their KB links.

It's safe to reboot the server after applying a patch.

Build 9.00.3325 is the Cumulative update 13 for SP2 and yes, installing SP3 will have all cumulative updates in the previous hot fixes.

Thanks PS. The reaon i asked it Sp3 was release on dec 08 and cumulative update 13 is released on april 13 09 and there is no mention about cumulative update 13 on sp3.

This is what it says about SP3 on http://www.msdn.com, there is no mention about update 13

"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (SP3) contains hotfixes that were included in cumulative update packages for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 from cumulative update package 1 to cumulative update package 9."

"If you are upgrading from SQL Server 2005 SP2 Cumulative Update 10 or from SQL Server 2005 SP2 Cumulative Update 11, you must apply a post-SQL Server 2005 SP3 cumulative update after you upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP3 to obtain all the fixes."
