Actually this is not about the topic, but about the format of the emails. I like the new left justified format, it is much more pleasant to read and look at than the center justified one. Now if you can left justify the forum titles also it would be better.

Lightly virtualized? I thought a server was either virtualized or not?

I imagine it means that it is one of a few (or even only) VM sitting on that hypervisor, as opposed to throwing in as many VMs as possible to the point of fully utilising (or even overloading) the hardware resources.

That is what the NYSE is doing. The haven't loaded the server to the hilt with VMs, and thus call it "lightly."

Thanks Matt & Jason. That's what we're doing here, too. We're not loading up to the max, either. I think that's been a stable I.T principal for a very long time. You always want to leave resources available

There are a couple articles, but the two that caught my eye were in the paper editions over the last few weeks. For some reason, they're not on the web.
I'm not sure they're using a lot of SQL. I know NASDAQ has been listed before as a big SQL Server customer, but the NYSE has just mentioned x64 and x86 as platforms, as opposed to Power6 or Sparc. Not necessarily the OS or RDBMS.
The lightly virtualized means not too many VMs, as mentioned. I know some companies look to put 10-20 VMs on a physical, which might work. However if you need better performance, you might put only 3-4 VMs on a box, one of which might be a database.
