2005 v 2008 tranning

    im a sql developer working on relational database. i have been tasked with taking over work on our cube. Know very little about analysis service so looking for an appropriate course. We currently running SQL 2005, and will do for the foreseeable future. i can get a local training course on 2008, but would have to travel a few hundred miles for a 2005 one. my question is would the 2008 be sufficient to breaking into this topic

    The changes from 2005 to 2008 are less intrusive than from 2000 to 2005. So I don't think this will be a problem although there's a minor risk that you won't be to happy still having to work with 2005 after taking the 2008 course :-(.

    +1 on go for 2008.

    For somone who wants to pick up and be competent quickly in AS the difference between the two is minimal. 2008 is just an enhancement of 2005. All the key components and tools are the same.

    I've just completed the 2008 version of the course: 6234A Implementing and Maintaining Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SSAS and I think you would be ok taking this course. There a a few differences as others have said but nothing that is going to stop you from managing the 2005 version.
