SSRS Installation is a bit tricky

  • I have just finished installing SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and run the upgrades to SP3.

IIS was installed first, and i have also successfully installed all other components for Notification, Analysis, Integration and Reporting Services.

Everything is now configured and working fine, except for SSRS which still fails to login my localservice account.

I've been into the Configuration Manager for SSRS and updated the report server instances, updated the Network System login and still no luck for connection to my local SQL Server.

Just wondering if there are a series of specific steps i need to install SSRS correctly? Or permission on my Administration user?

Perhaps a link to the set up process. Any help appreciated.

  • OK.

    what is your current state.

Could you try http://localhost/reportserver and http://localhost/reports

and reply with what you see.

"Software changes. This is a rather obvious statement, but it is a fact that must be ever present in the minds of developers and architects. Although we tend to think of software development as chiefly an engineering exercise, the analogy breaks down very quickly. When was the last time someone asked the designers of the Empire State building to add ten new floors at the bottom, put a pool on the top, and have all of this done before Monday morning? • I'm not sure where you are getting the error. Is the error on starting SSRS, accessing the Report Manager web site, or trying to manage SSRS from SSMS?

Is SSRS setup on the same machine as the DB Engine or a separate machine?

  • Yes. SSRS is set up on the same machine (my Laptop running Vista Ultimate) as my Database engine and all other services and components.

And yes i am getting the login error when opening SSMS and then trying to connect to Reporting Services.

I have also been successful in going to the http://localhost in a local browser. I have not tried going to http://localhost/ReportServer.
