upgrade only Analysis Services...

  • Good morning. We have a request from a user to upgrade ONLY Analysis Services from sql server 2000 to 2005 and leave the rest running in 2000. Do anyone know if this is possible? It doesn't sound right to me - but, I want to be sure.

    Thanks!

SSAS runs on a separate instance from other services - db engine, SSIS, SSRS - so you should be able to upgrade it on its own. However, you do need to test whether doing so will cause any problems accessing data on the SQL 2000 db-engine instances, creating cubes etc.

I'm tempted to say there should be no issues if you upgrade just SSAS to sql 2005.

    But you need to test.

Perhaps someone else out there has a more informed opinion.
