SQL Server Documentation

  • Not sure, if i post something like this here. Sorry if this is the wrong place for such posts..

Has any one got any template to store all the details such as OS (ROM,RAM etc), Backup strategy, Disaster recovery, Account details...

If any one has got any excel template, Please attach it here. I want to document everything i have got..

    Thanks,

    Sudhie.

  • I would be more inclined to document on a company intranet. I like to use wiki software for that kind of thing, with DBAs, sys admins, etc., having write-access to it, and everyone in IT plus relevant managers with read-access.

I've found that work quite nicely. And nobody ends up with an out-of-date copy and messes something up because of it.

  • It wont solve all your problems but the MS Assessment and Planning Solution Accelerator gives you a nice spreadsheet to start with for SQL installations http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb977556.aspx will give you some good stats on OS versions and service pack levels, will no doubt show up a bunch of installations you weren't aware of...
