Database Mail and Sql Mail

  • Setting up a new box and it has latest hotfix build 3257. When I right click on database mail to send a test email, it tells me I have no profiles when in fact, I have 2. This is the error.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

    ------------------------------

There are no Database Mail profiles to send a test e-mail.

    ------------------------------

    BUTTONS:

    OK

    ------------------------------

I also have an outlook profile setup and when I choose SQL Mail in the Agent properties it does not show the profile. Is anyone experiencing this? Did I miss something? I did it on build 3159 box and it works fine. Any help appreciated.

  • Is one of the profiles set up as the default? Are they listed as Public?

  • SQL Management Studio -> right click: Database Email (under management) -> Manage database mail account and profiles ->

Here you can create a new profile or modify an existing one. Check if you have a email-profile defined in your SQL server.

  • Few things to check

    SQLMail

    ------

    1. What is the sql service start up account? (It has to be domain account)

    2. Outlook Profile should be set using same account which is sql service start up account. So you have to login to box using that account and then configure outlook.

    Database Mail

    ----------

    1. You need to defined profile within SQL Server using Management studio (refer books online for step by step instructions)

  • SQL Service and Mail are using a domain account. Database mail is now working, but we still need sql mail as well. Same error as above.

  • It is a 64 bit server and SQL Mail is not available for this. Makes sense.
