Hi,
Until a few weeks ago I was happily using SQL Server 2005 Professional client software. I've since changed job to a 2000 site which has just installed SQL Server 2005 Express client software on my desktop today. I notice that there is no "SQL Server Agents" under the "Management" leaf which I had in my old job. I found this to be quite irritating as I wanted to create a job that I could run in batch.
Anyway, is the lack of "SQL Server Agents" because I am using Express or does a DBA have to tick something to make this functionality available to me?

No, unfortuntely there is nothing to tick. Express edtion is a stripped down version of SQL Server 2005 with limited functionality.

As an aside, tell you new employer you need the developer edition as it has the same functionality as Enterprise Edition yet costs 49 dollars.

Express has no agent/job functionality.
Also - the SSMS that comes with Express is incompatible with other instances of SQL server (i.e. you can't connect to a Standard/workgroup/Enterprise edition instance from the SSMS-EE interface).
You can however manage an Express instance from the "real SSMS" (the one shipping with the premium versions of the software).

I can see from your link that Express does not include SQL Agent Job Scheduling. On Monday, I shall ask for either Enterprise or the Developer version.
