Office 2007

  • Firstly I'm not sure if this is the correct group but;

    Here's my question

    My understanding is that Excel in Office 2007 will be able to use the Analyses Services in SQL2K5 as the data engine to get around the 65,000 row limit in present day versions of Excel.

    Has anyone tried it, written on it or any comments that you guys are aware of?

    We analyze properties and metrics of phonecalls in call-centers and beating that 65K limit for our clients would really be an advance, since all the managers want the results in Excel.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi user4301,

    As I undertsand it, Excel 07 will be able to handle >65k rows, and more than 256 cols while we're talking about it, but it doesn't have anything to do with the AS (or relational DB) engine.  There were modifications made to the application itself.  Out of interest, the new limits appear to be ~1M for the rows and 16k for the columns.  Check out one fo the Dev guys blogs here. (note this is a bit of an old post now).

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  • Thank you so much.

    That 'bit of an old post' is exacly the real info I was looking for

    Thank you
