Backups what a pain on the NECK

    Hey SQL gurus, I have about 4 boxes, but one is putting me as a good candidate to be fired.

    This box is runnig win3k and SQL 2000 srvpack3 like the others, and running List Manager from Lyris.

    My backup is reporting a failure.

     

    BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'E:ListServer.bak'. Operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.).

    I tried putting a old backup file, so there is a file there.  also i run the backpup as "SA" and also administrator and no luck.

    Please help.

    Hi,

    From what I understand is that you are trying to append to a existing backup file.

    Looks like the existing backup file is corrupted.

    Tried trying create a new backup file OR Try creating the backup to a different location. And is it a full backup or a differential or a T-log backup file ?

    Please give more information to assist you accordingly.

    Have you ever backed up to E before?

    Is it a local drive or a network drive?

    Is it a CD drive?

    SQL Server doesn't like backing up to network drives.

    could it be something as simple as the path missing a slash?

    'E:ListServer.bak' might really need to be 'E:\ListServer.bak'

    Thanks to all of you for replying, it is not a network drive nor CD drive and it has the  slash after the E:.

    I try recreating the file, backing up to a different local drive or another path, and nothing.

    The wierd thing is that it goes for about 30 min, and then dies.

    I do not what else to do.

    Check for an antivirus software or archiving software that may be grabbing hold of the file.  I've had this problem before and pinpointed the problem to AV software.

    I do have intivirus software in this machine.

    I'll disabled it and try again.
